[On the morning of the 25th, outside Riza's door, there is a nicely wrapped package, with a written letter tucked in at the top, next to a large ribbon.
Inside her present is a container of (now cold) spaghetti, and the rest of the box is just filled to the brim with dog treats.
Opening the letter reveals a maybe somewhat familiar font, which says:]
RIZA,
MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I THOUGHT THE PUPPY YOU ARE TAKING CARE OF MIGHT LIKE THESE, SO I BOUGHT ALL OF THEM. YOU ARE NOW THE PROUD OWNER OF EVERY DOG TREAT IN TOWN. USE THIS POWER WISELY!!!!
[Japanese isn't anywhere close to whatever garbled German language they speak in FMA-verse but!!! She's got resources for this, she'll get back to Gin in a few days....]
[Though she's not used to having to think about such things, she gets the implication that Riza is probably only just slightly less suspicious to the guards than the people actually in prison. That's definitely worrying, no matter how competent she seems.]
Do you really have to look for members of the Order? Can't we just deal with our own people?
[Really, thanks to the infodump meeting, she kind of knows they need to deal with the members of the Order, if only because other attempts to rescue their fellows were not working at all. But she really doesn't like the Order from what she's heard about them.]
[In any other situation, she would prefer to keep her allies to those she trusts - meaning those she's gotten to know and work alongside with in ALASTAIR. But circumstances have forced her hand, and she knows from experience that this isn't something they'll be able to do alone.
They need help.]
They appear to know more about the magic of the town than we do. They may be able to help us with the magic barrier surrounding the jail, or know of some way to deconstruct it and bring it down.
But from the way Hayate's gleefully shoving his nose in the box and wagging his tail in delight, Papyrus has clearly done the work of the gods. Congrats, Papyrus, you have earned +1 puppy friend 4 lyfe.]
[Why do you have to make sense, Riza? She'd like to say that they could find a way to engineer a jailbreak without any special powers, but who was she to say something like that? She had no way of even beginning to contribute to such an endeavour, let alone knowing if it was even vaguely plausible.]
I still don't like it. They should be in jail. [Maybe not awaiting execution. Maybe.] And they sound much more dangerous than the guards.
[People that she knows personally need to stop surprising her with sudden compliments about her idol career. Or, rather, they need to not stop and let her get used to them, because she sure does love getting praised. She's caught too off-guard to reply for a few moments, though the delay might be a little less noticeable since her previous replies have been slower since they moved to talking about the Order. This delay is a little longer than those, though.]
I know. ♥
[One day, she may learn to say "thank you" instead of pulling a Han Solo. Properly saying that it means a lot is probably beyond hope. Much easier to hide behind an aura of confidence, so whoops here comes a stream of bluster.]
I didn't know you would be into this kind of concert. [No offence.] But I guess a true idol reaches everyone. ☆
That would be problem, then, if you weren't able to make it. ☆ I haven't set a date for my next concert. Perhaps New Years. Or Christmas, if they're out of jail by then. But I'm going to hold you to that, that you'll be there. ♥ So don't get into trouble, okay? ♡
[The shift back towards a topic more light-hearted and easy comes welcome, and Riza settles into the conversation easily and comfortably. The lack of any 'thank you' doesn't bother her at all - if she's used to anything, it's being surrounded by people of all ages overly confident in their own abilities. Nico's just another drop in the large ocean.]
I haven't had many chances to attend concerts before since work keeps me so busy. It's nice to have to the chance to see some now.
[2000-era style concerts or otherwise.]
I'll do my best to be there. Although I'm surprised you have the energy to hold so many concerts. Doesn't it get tiring?
[The first part makes Nico a little happy, as she takes it as meaning she's giving Riza an experience she didn't have the chance to have before, and that thought makes her want to try just a little bit harder. As for the second part:]
It is a lot of work. An idol's job isn't an easy one! ♪ But Nico's spirit is indomitable! ☆ My energy is limitless when it's for my fans! ♡
And back home Umi made us run laps up and down the shrine's steps every morning and evening on top of our dance practice to build up our stamina. [The truth comes out.] It's a little harder to keep it up here, [what with the town being not exactly the safest most of the time, especially before all the Christmas stuff] but I'm doing what I can. ☆ And I have a lot of people helping me with the backstage parts. ♥
[All this information she's learning.....it's a cherished glance into Nico's life, even if most of it she's heard in various forms over the past few months.]
Shrine? Did you visit a shrine very often back home?
Mm-hmm! —Though I guess theirs would be a variation of what I'm wearing now. Since it wouldn't really make much sense for their upper portion to be covered!
