[She probably knows what he's implying by that. Yep, Julius is in jail with the others. He sends a simple text message because he doesn't want the guards to catch onto him.]
I apologize. For being trapped like this--for letting you down.
I should have been more careful.
[ You just got the most shounen protag of disney princesses to say she should have been more careful, be proud of yourself. And it's not really out of any regret for her action or inaction, it's more out of a reflexive indignation at putting Riza in dire straits like this.
ALASTAIR will mobilize, she's sure of it. That won't make it easy, and she'd do anything to be on the other side of these cell bars. ]
[ What are you talking about? There aren't any other intentions here whatsoever. He was never, ever any kind of smooth talker— that's probably why he never really got the girl even if his intent was usually pure despite his words sounding bitter or .. awkward. Gin was a very tough on the outside and soft on the inside kind of person— he's always been that way. Though, his upbringing in the temple school and then sent off to war as a teenager really didn't allow him a chance to really date or anything like that.
His first real experience with a girl was when he was a military teen and they visited a brothel to relieve some stress. Nothing special, and he always just felt it would be that way. It was kind of complicated and awkward— and if you saw the girls he had built the strongest friendships with back home in Edo, you would see why he wouldn't be entirely interested in dating anybody.
They're all pretty terrifying.
Gin's brows raise for a moment, then he falls dead-pan. ]
I'll ... [ yeah there is a weird little pause there ] see you then. [ and yadda yadda, he clicks off his device and we'll handwave them communicating about how to meet up and when. ]
[Of all the things Riza expects to hear Kida utter, an apology is at the very bottom of that list, so low it doesn't even cross her mind as a possibility. Her next message comes delayed, surprise momentarily clearing her mind of rational thought before anger comes creeping in. At Kida, for believing she'd needed to apologize in the first place. At ALASTAIR, for playing God with the lives of so many different people. At herself, for being unable to complete one of the few goals she'd set for herself.]
We're all to blame for this happening.
[And really, if anyone's been a letdown this entire time surely it must be ALASTAIR, but there's little to gained from petty finger-pointing and accusations.]
We'll find a way to get all of you out of there and we'll take what we've learned from this to make sure it doesn't happen again.
[ In Atlantis, her life was orderly. She knew where everything was, how everything worked, and where her place lied in the grand scheme of things.
She's never hit her limit quite as hard as she has now, not in eight thousand years.
She's learning there's so much she's simply never been exposed to, never learned about, couldn't even have fathomed, from the feeling of seeing a homeless orphan to the impossible vastness of the night sky. She's learning how tiny she is, and how great the powers of the world are.
Her teammates in ALASTAIR are counting on her. Her people are counting on her. She doesn't have the leisure for making costly mistakes. ]
I believe in you. You have my every confidence, Riza.
We will speak again soon.
[ It's the last message for today. Too much staring at her bracelet will surely cause suspicion. ]
[Things on her end aren't much better than things on his end right now, tbh.]
None of the rest of us have been arrested yet. However, there's a greater deal of scrutiny on us now, which makes planning any sort of escape difficult. You might be in that cell a little while longer sir, I apologize.
rolls over and dies in vals inbox. all these typos mean i should sleep...!!
[She means it, and appreciates the offer dearly. There are plenty of people she could talk to, but very few that ever explicitly make the offer in the first place. Bolin's a good kid. He deserves so much better than to work for a shady company hellbent on playing God with the fates of so many different planets.]
I do have a favor to ask you though, if you're not too busy.
